New York: An Uzbek man who started shouting on the streets that ‘God is great’ drove a pickup truck over a crowded bike path near the World Trade Centre in New York on Wednesday, cruelly which killed at least eight people and injured 11 others in an ISIS-inspired plot. It is termed as the deadliest terrorist attack on the city since 9/11.
A police officer shot the 29-year-old suspect in the stomach before being arrested. His name has been revealed to media as Sayfullo Saipov, an immigrant who came to the US in 2010.

The attacker left nearly a half km crime scene – a three-lined bike path scattered with bicycles and their parts.
Police said the truck drove south after entering a pedestrian and bicycle path, where it stumbled multiple people.
The truck smashed into a school bus, which injured two adults and two children, the accused exited the truck showing “imitation firearms” and was shot by police, according to the information of New York Police Department (NYPD).
“We heard a truck, a car, something that went down the bike path,” said the witness, Eugene Duffty, 44, who was present at a red light to walk across West Street.
The accused ISIS driver shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is great) after getting out of the vehicle. A note was found in the truck from the Islamic State terror group’s pellet gun and a paintball gun were culled from the scene.
At lease 11 people were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to New York Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro.
Authorities told media that the accused who was hospitalized, underwent surgery and was expected to survive.
New York City mayor Bill de Blasio said the incident was being treated as an act of terror, “a particularly cowardly act of terror”.
Donald Trump, US President stated that “we must not allow ISIS to return”.
The US Judiciary Department stated that a joint terrorism task force that included the FBI, the NYPD along with others was investigating the attack.
