New Delhi: The national leader University (JNU) on Wed set to part rollback the hike in hostel fees following protests by students for sixteen days.
It conjointly projected a theme for economic help to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students.
The decision was taken in varsity’s council (EC) meeting that had to be shifted outside the field at the last moment fearing agitation by students.
“JNU govt Committee announces major rollback within the hostel fee and alternative stipulations. conjointly proposes a theme for economic help to the EWS students. Time to urge back to categories,” HRD Secretary R Subrmanyam tweeted.
According to sources, the space rent that was raised to Rs 600 from Rs twenty for single occupancy can currently be Rs two hundred. Similarly, for double occupancy the rent was hiked from Rs ten to Rs three hundred.
The amount can currently be Rs one hundred. the scholars had on weekday staged a protest outside AICTE, the venue for the convocation.
As the protests escalated, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ was stuck within for over six hours and made to cancel 2 regular events.(FA9NEWS)
